| Slabs of giant Howlite rock are laid out across grassy slopes, spreading distant and silent memories accumulated over millions of years. Stainless steel pillars with polished surfaces protrude from the surface of the rocks in varying lengths, as if to signify new life springing forth from thousands of years of life history; the unfinished texture of natural rock juxtaposed with the smooth and polished fabricated steel pillars produces a contrasting image of science and the natural world. The purpose of designing the steel columns to appear as if they have emerged from the rocks is to cleverly and softly articulate the relationship between medicine and nature; while humans have accomplished great achievements in science and technology, we should not forget to thank the wisdom and guidance of Mother Nature – an important spirit and attitude for someone in the field of biomedicine. |
