Make Friends Across Borders Online
Exchange Between NEHS and the Czech Republic
With the introduction of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague, the bilingual departments of the national experimental high schools in Taiwan’s three science parks launched exchanges with three senior high schools in the Czech Republic. The first such exchange took place in early 2022 when Taiwan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Harry Tsengand Jiří Růžička, vice president of the Senate of the Czech Republic, were joined by the principals, staff, and students of the six schools at an online conference. The students introduced their schools to one another. In June, the six schools organized more exchanges such as online courses and cultural activities: sharing self-initiated
science projects, performing musicals, and processing films. Students of Taiwan and the Czech Republic benefited a lot from these exchanges and talked a great deal about the aforesaid courses and activities. Hopefully the two sides can organize physical visits when the pandemic is over.
Exchange With Nagano Senior High School
High school students of NEHS have engaged in exchanges with their counterparts at Nagano Senior High School for years. With the pandemic effectively blocking physical visits, the two sides resorted to videoconferencing for students to share their respective culinary delights, talk about daily lives, and discuss how the two countries differ culturally. To keep up their friendship after this videoconference, students of the two schools sent gifts to one another.
