In 2019, the HSPB won a platinum award, the highest honor for the 12th Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards, in the government and NGO sector from the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy for its CSR report. This accolade not only attests to the HSPB’s long-term commitment to upholding social responsibility while promoting economic development and environmental protection, but also gives it impetus to stay on track for striving for sustainable development in the days ahead.
Meanwhile, the HSPB hosted a presentation in 2019 to encourage tenant companies to fulfill their CSR and publish CSR reports. In 2019, the HSP saw such publications by a total of 51 tenant companies.
Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction
In tandem with the government’s energy conservation and carbon reduction policy, the HSPB has commissioned a professional consulting company to implement a water conservation, energy conservation, and carbon reduction assistance program. Highlights in 2019 included assistance offered to 10 companies in improving energy efficiency; one demonstration of excellence in energy conservation; assistance offered to 10 companies for conserving water use; one demonstration of excellence in water conservation; and tracking of the energy and water conservation achievements of companies that had received HSPB assistance on such fronts in 2018. In 2019, the energy and water savings potential deriving from the aforesaid efforts amounted to 16.77 million kWh of electricity and 348,000 tons of water respectively, translating

into an 8,990-ton decrease in CO2 emissions for the year.
To ascertain the amount of greenhouse gas emissions as the basis for reduction efforts, the HSPB assisted three tenant companies in building the capacity for validating greenhouse gas inventories and five others in completing external verification of their greenhouse gas inventories, or 153 tons of CO2, in 2019. When it comes to helping tenant companies enhance energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the HSPB also offered assistance to four tenant companies, whose combined mitigation potential amounted to 7,500 tons of CO2. Separately, the HSPB also conducted one presentation on greenhouse gas management to help tenant companies increase their capacity for greenhouse gas reduction and management. In addition to helping tenant companies learn more about greenhouse gas and climatic risk management, the HSPB elaborated on details of the country’s credits offsetting initiative designed for microbusinesses.
Circular Economy
Screening for the Awards of Excellence in Waste Reduction in a Circular Economy has been initiated to encourage tenant companies to address waste disposal properly and promote a circular economy by means of waste reduction from the source. A panel of scholars and experts is responsible for this screening process. The 2019 winners were:
