Organize a Business-Matching Event
In September 2019, HSPB Deputy Director- General Andrea T. J. Hsu headed a delegation of representatives from nine HSP companies, including IMEDIPLUS Inc., Phalanx Biotech, North- vision Tech. Inc., Liverage Biomedical Inc., Caduceus Biotechnology Inc., Advanced Biomedical Technology Inc., S&T Biomed Co., Ltd., and ProtectLife International Biomedical Inc., to Thailand and called at the Thailand Science Park, Bangkok Hospital, Samitivej Hospital, and Ramathibodi Hospital. Joined by ThaiMed, the delegation also organized a business-matching event that brought together leading Thai businesses such as SCG, CP All, DKSH (Thailand), BNH Hospital, and Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital with their Taiwan counterparts. Separately, the delegation called at Medical Fair Asia Thailand in a bid to expand Taiwan’s market presence.
Promote a Biomedical Cluster, Build an Innovative Environment, Help Companies Compete Internationally
1. Business Matching in Developed Countries
To help the HSP’s medical equipment companies make inroads into developed countries, the HSPB led a delegation of representatives from six companies—Medimaging Integrated Solution Inc., Brain Navi Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Advanced Biomedical Technology Inc., General Biologicals Corp., North-vision Tech. Inc., and Phalanx Biotech— to Japan for business matching in October 2019. The delegation visited Medical Japan and called at such leading companies as Canon Inc. and Fanuc Corp. for technical exchanges, thus initiating further bilateral contacts in the days ahead. the HSPB headed another mission comprising representatives from eight companies—Medimaging Integrated Solution Inc., North-vision Tech. Inc., General Biologicals Corp., Brain Navi Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Somnics, Inc., Advanced Biomedical Technology Inc., Phalanx Biotech, and BROADSIMS Inc.—to Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands and called at R&D centers in biotech parks for technical exchanges. At MEDICA, the world’s largest trade fair for medical equipment held in Dusseldorf, the mission also hosted a get-together for the HSP’s medical equipment companies and their European counterparts to hold one-on-one discussions about technology, market, and capital.
2. Foster an Innovative Environment, Push Startups onto the World Stage
To make the HSP a better-rounded environment for biomedical startups and help with their development, the HSPB regularly invites scholars and experts to speak on biotechnology, medical equipment, business management, and other startup-related topics. In 2019, there were a total of six such lectures, spanning a combined 18 hours and attracting 212 participants. The HSPB also organized delegations to visit abroad in order to stay up to date with trends in the international biomedical community. In 2019, there were a total of 16 such events for business matching and exchanges where guidance was extended to 26 would-be startups. Out of these came Taiwan RedEye Biomedical Inc. and Seknova Biotechnology Co., Ltd. that subsequently found their way into the HSP as tenant companies.
3. BIO Asia 2019
With authorization from the Biotechnology Innovation Organization, BIO Taiwan was renamed BIO Asia in 2019, a July 25-28 event held at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. On the opening day, President Tsai Ing-wen and Minister of Science and Technology Chen Liang-gee jointly visited the pavilion set up by the HSP, the Central Taiwan Science Park, the Southern Taiwan Science Park,
