Precision Health Cross-Sector Upgrade Program
The HSPB is proactive to bolster the HSP’s cross- sector R&D capacity in the precision health sector, encourage collaboration among tenant companies and neighboring medical, academic, and research institutions to develop innovative products and applications that can meet clinical needs. Special emphasis is placed on pushing R&D results into the clinical trial process and thus meeting the growing global demand for smart and digital healthcare technologies and services. The ultimate goal is to have biomedical companies from the HSP assert themselves on the international stage and create value they deserve. As such, the HSPB has been joined by the National Science and Technology Council to introduce the Precision Health Cross-Sector Upgrade Program, a four-year (2022-2025) subprogram of the latter’s Precision Health R&D and Cluster Development Program. In 2022, approval was granted to four subsidy applications for precision testing and prevention research proposals jointly presented by industry, academia, and research and medical institutions. Subsidies totaling NT$24 million was matched by over NT$36 million in R&D outlays from subsidy recipients.
Moreover, the HSPB fostered the establishment of two precision health alliances and hosted two special exhibitions with a view to helping tenant companies secure preclinical and clinical validation of R&D results and bring their new products to market at an early date. In a similar vein, a gathering of biotechnology companies
from Taiwan, Japan, and Europe was organized to facilitate partnerships across tenant companies and neighboring medical, academic, and research institutions. Separately, assistance was granted to three tenant companies in seeking certification for launching into overseas markets. All these endeavors go a long way toward driving the HSP’s biomedical industry and create a well-rounded cluster of precision health companies.
Program for Entrepreneurial Environment Innovation in the HSP's Medical Equipment Industry
The HSPB implements the Program for Entrepreneurial Environment Innovation in the HSP's Medical Equipment Industry with a view to promoting the precision health industry. In 2022, four matchmaking events were organized to facilitate technology exchanges, foster business opportunities, and secure venture capital partners. Specialists were invited to help would-be startups overcome whatever difficulties they might have encountered. Moreover, the HSPB led 10 medical devices startups to attend Medical Taiwan 2022 in June and took another six teams to related institutions in Fukuoka, Japan for visits and matchmaking in October. These events in 2022 brought together 28 medical devices companies and 24 would-be startups as the HSPB sought to land more business opportunities both at home and abroad and expand the local medical devices industry’s presence in the global supply chain.
