Preface │ Preface by the Director General 3
Hsinchu Science Park Bureau and the Hsinchu city government, stayed on track to fuel the takeoff of a new host of smart industries. Also started was construction on phase 2 standard plants in the Yilan Park. Separately, the Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park began fostering a cluster of its own as National Taiwan University Hospital’s HBSP Branch became operational in December 2019. In addition to offering medical care, it can serve the HBSP’s biomedical companies by supporting their translational research and clinical tests. While the Second Biotech Building is scheduled to be completed in March 2020, the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau is already planning construction on a third one to create a comprehensive R&D, verification, and applications network capable of accelerating output growth, driving innovative startups, and consolidating resources across the government, industrial, academic, research, and medical sectors to move the biomedical industry forward.
In terms of cross-border cooperation, the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau hosted the 2019 annual convention of the Asia Science Park Association (ASPA) in Hsinchu. A total of 278 attendees from 16 countries discussed the impact caused by the digital era and countermeasures thus called for. It was an occasion conducive not only to promoting exchanges and experience- sharing between science parks in the region but also to increasing the international visibility of Taiwan’s technology sector. In my capacity as ASPA president and backed by Taiwan’s technological prowess, I will continue to advance international cooperation and speak for Taiwan in the days ahead.
With “Heritage, Innovation” as its keynote for 2020, the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau will continue to improve investment conditions, bolster the semiconductor industry chain, strengthen the biomedical industry cluster, and secure sustainable development of all industries. “Heritage” refers to building on the Hsinchu Science Park’s hard-earned cluster effect that saw its beginning nearly 40 years ago to improve innovative services, stimulate creative diversity, promote international cooperation, cultivate the needed talent, and usher in all sorts of innovative ventures. The ultimate objective is to grow the Hsinchu Science Park into a world-class science park that always stays on track for “innovation.” Here I call on everyone at the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau to serve tenant companies with passion and the belief that prosperity will certainly be shared by all down the road, thereby ensuring the Hsinchu Science Park’s sustainable development.
