On the eve of the Hsinchu Science Park’s 40th anniversary, the Organization Act of the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau, Ministry of Science and Technology was amended, thereby dropping the long-time nominal reference to “industrial.” This nominal change makes it clear that the Hsinchu Science Park will no longer be geared only toward industrial manufacturing. Instead, the main goal is to add value by means of driving scientific innovation and integrating forward-looking technologies.
In 2019, the Hsinchu Science Park recorded a 1.5% year-on-year increase in sales to US$35.43 billion, surpassing the US$35 billion mark for the 10th consecutive year. In the spotlight were the computer and peripherals industries. The year also saw the Hsinchu Science Park usher in 40 new investment projects amounting to a combined US$571 million, growing 34% from the year before and attesting to the HSP’s indisputable status as the No. 1 quality investment environment favored by eminent domestic and foreign businesses alike.
The Hsinchu Science Park Bureau adopted “Seize the Opportunity to Start a New Era” as the overarching theme for its work in 2019. In retrospect, headway was made in securing more industrial land: environmental impact assessment, urban plan changes, and land acquisition with regard to the Baoshan expansion project were completed.
