Hsinchu Science Park 2019Annual Report
4 Sustainable Planning for Construction Projects
The Second Biotech Building in the Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park
Given its rapid development, the Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park is quickly running out of standard plants for incoming tenant companies. To offer a forward-looking place for biotechnology ventures to undertake R&D and production, construction on the park’s Second Biotech Building—a steel structure with 12 stories above the ground and three levels underground—started on January 19, 2018. Upon its completion set for the end of March 2020, a total of 60 standard plants will be made available to companies that work on new drugs and high-end medical equipment, thereby giving an extra boost to the park’s R&D momentum.
Separately, National Taiwan University Hospital’s HBSP Branch became operational on December 16, 2019. Positioned as “Taiwan’s international showcase and center of excellence for medical care and biotech development,” it can serve the HBSP’s biomedical companies by supporting their translational research and clinical tests as well as offer medical care services. With the HBSP at the core, it can also play a pivotal role in bringing together the resources across government, industry, and academia as well as the research and medical communities to accelerate the development of Taiwan’s biomedical industry.
New Phase 2 Standard Plant Building in the Hsinchu Park
As existing plants become increasingly outdated and land use efficiency remains low, it is urgent to offer next-generation standard plants that the technology industry will need for future development. Construction of such new plants that can adapt to the times and operate more efficiently will go a long way toward the HSP’s land revitalization.
Above all, a growing shortage of plants makes it even more urgent to increase the HSP’s land use efficiency by means of urban renewal. As such, a steel structure, with eight stories above the ground and three levels underground, is planned for the floor area still available at the Hsinchu Park’s phase 6 A and B bases for standard plant buildings plus a still relatively intact vacant lot. Construction started on April 20, 2019. Upon its completion set for December 2020, a total of 16 standard plants will be made available to tenant companies.
Phase 2 Standard Plant Building in the Yilan Park
To usher in more ventures that undertake telecommunications knowledge services, digital creativity, and R&D, a phase 2 standard plant building, with five stories above the ground and one level underground, is planned for the Yilan Park. Construction started on October 11, 2019. Upon its completion set for July 2021, a total of 41 standard plants will be made available to tenant companies.
Renovation of the Xuanyuan Single-Dorm Building
In the wake of the Jiji earthquake on September 21, 1999, the Ministry of the Interior promulgated the amended Program for Buildings’ Undergoing Seismic Resistance Evaluation and Reinforcement on December 18, 2008, after which it also unveiled new regulations that require incorporating better- rounded seismic resistance design into building
