Preface
An Innovation-Driven Quest for Sustainability
In 2022, the world was fraught with challenges: the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the COVID-19 pandemic, inflation, and geopolitical tensions. Companies operating in the Hsinchu Science Park, however, stood their ground and managed reasonable growth. This was the case mainly thanks to a solid foundation consolidated over the years that in turn sustained relentless innovation and transformation. Core technologies were applied to a wide range of emerging industries, thereby enabling these companies to further bolster their collective standing derived from the cluster effect. Focus was placed on developing next- generation products, applications, and services; the HSP industrial ecosystem was thus able to retain its leadership. Robust developments thus fueled across industries, in turn, helped HSP companies tide over the many turbulences of 2022.
In the days ahead, the HSPB is set to further consolidate the HSP as a viable operating environment. On top of the Baoshan Base Phase I and II Expansion Project, the X Project—due for completion in 2024— will usher in innovative ventures across R&D and
Road and construction of a 20-meter-wide road for the Baoshan Base Phase I Expansion Project. The HSPB is also set to continue working with the county and city governments of Hsinchu on easing traffic congestion. In addition to promoting industrial development and fostering diversification, the HSPB will also draw on HSP resources to bolster technology talent cultivation and further improve the living environment. In August 2022, the HSPB launched the Duxing Nonprofit Kindergarten. More affordable, quality, and convenient preschool services are planned for the future to better meet the needs of HSP employees.
The HSPB looks forward to teaming up with HSP companies for “an innovation-driven quest for sustainability.” For the technology industry, the cause of reaching net zero by 2050 and the accelerating global competition thus fueled bring both opportunities and challenges. The HSP has long been recognized as a global technology hub. With innovation as the driving force, the HSPB aims to help HSP companies build on existing advantages to identify new sources of growth, thereby enabling Taiwan to build up various next-
design, information software and services, and smart applications. Also under way is construction and renovation of standard plant buildings. In early 2023, the HSPB expects to complete expansion of Lixing 3rd
generation industries. Meanwhile, sustainability deserves to remain the key as industries work together to create a mechanism of symbiosis and attain the HSP’s ultimate goal of “innovation, inclusiveness, and sustainability.”
