A global leader in network communications system integration
A bellwether for RF technology
Jeffrey Gau, president & CEO Wistron NeWeb Corp.
Wistron NeWeb Corp. (WNC), established in 1996, specializes in the design, development, and manufacture of communications devices for applications across local area networks, mid-range wide area networks, and satellite communications. Its clientele spans the enterprise, home, and automotive sectors, leading networking communications brand names and telecom operators. By making inroads into global supply chains for satellite broadband devices and automotive OE products, WNC has secured a solid standing in the fiercely competitive network communications industry.
An upgraded business model: add value to ODM via system integration
As a co-founder of WNC 26 years ago, CEO Jeffrey Gau has overseen the company’s leveraging of its core competence in communications to make inroads into products and applications aligned with the latest technology and market trends, in particular such rapidly growing areas as LEO, 5G O-RAN, and EV. Likewise, a new business unit has been formed to help explore opportunities in vertical markets while integrating communications technologies, IoT sensors, and AI applications. In addition to matching products with market trends, Gau has come up with an upgraded business model that seeks to add value to the ODM mode of business via system integration. Priority is given to sharing and integrating R&D and business resources in the provision of value-adding services to industry chains, specifically antenna and networking modules in the upstream, terminal and edge products in the midstream, and system integration of vertical applications in the downstream. At the same time, WNC is keen to raise the revenue weighting of JDM and ODM business so as to further expand its product mix and earnings capacity.
Bolster operational resilience to promote global push
On top of technologies, products, and strategies, Gau also pays special attention to enhancing operational resilience and promoting data governance and digital transformation, and creating a smart platform of precision, immediacy, and visibility. Simulation systems are adopted to help enhance efficacy of both risk management and decision making.
WNC’s bid to bolster operational resilience has also driven its global expansion. To better meet customer requirements for diversifying geopolitical risks, the company has expanded production capacity in Vietnam and Taiwan and is in the process of expanding its R&D center in Taiwan. Its global workforce already exceeds 14,000. Talent retention and training is an increasingly daunting challenge as WNC continues to grow. Accordingly, the past few years have seen a significant upgrade in remuneration packages and vigorous industry- academia collaboration.
Take ESG actions and move toward sustainable development
Multiple challenges await in the coming years: environmental and political risks, economic uncertainties, and intense competition across markets. Undaunted, WNC will draw on its niche competitiveness to pursue growth and push its annual revenue beyond the NT$100 billion mark. Alongside this pursuit of business success, the company will continue to honor its corporate social responsibilities by adopting green design, creating an energy management platform, procuring renewable energy, and striving for supply chain sustainability. WNC will not only incorporate ESG considerations into its decision-making processes but also join forces with stakeholders to take action on this front, in turn fostering a sustainable future beneficial to
both the community and the environment.
