Taiwan’s first
microwave and satellite communications company
The world’s No. 1 direct broadcast satellite equipment supplier
Dr. Chi C. Hsieh, chairman Eugene Wu, president & CEO Microelectronics Technology Inc.
Established at the HSP in 1983, Microelectronics Technology Inc. (MTI) is a subsidiary of Hon Hai Technology Group that has a global workforce in excess of 1,000. Headquartered in Taiwan, MTI undertakes manufacture in mainland China and operates R&D centers in Europe and the U.S. Of its three main products, RU devices for the 5G O-RAN ecosystem account for 43% of revenue, GEO/LEO user terminals around 33%, and low-noise block downconverters 23% or so.
Aim for global leadership in wireless communications
MTI is committed to making the best partner for leading suppliers of wireless and satellite communications systems. Over the past four decades it has focused on leveraging its core competency in RF and microwave technology to develop wireless communications products with the greatest market potential. Ample experiences in product design and highly efficient engineering integration enable the company to greatly shorten
Capitalize on 5G and LEO satellite opportunities
MTI’s hard work in the O-RAN market has begun to pay off. Shipments of related equipment are expected to increase further as Dish Network aims to have its 5G O-RAN services cover 70% of the American population in 2023. Moreover, the company also began shipping O-RAN equipment to Japan’s NEC in the second half of 2022. MTI is set to see O-RAN equipment take a greater weighting in revenue and become a primary driving force behind revenue growth this year.
Getting a foothold in the satellite industry invariably incurs the need for surmounting formidable technology barriers against relatively limited resources available. “MTI’s journey in the space industry has always been a lonely one,” President Eugene Wu says. With a number of major LEO satellite operators having become operational, however, MTI is finally getting rewarded for its early foray into this field. In addition to shipments of very small aperture terminals to the U.S., MTI has also started shipping ground terminal equipment to UK and Canadian satellite operators and system integrators. As such, MTI stands out as one
development time and meet time-to-market needs.
MTI owns the strongest RF and microwave R&D team in Taiwan. Moreover, it spends an average nearly 6% of revenue on R&D each year. Since 2014, MTI has won such accolades as the HSP’s Innovative Product Awards (2014) and the 4th-largest U.S. telecom operator Dish Network’s recognition of the highest product quality (2021). The most advanced RF and microwave technology and collaboration with global giants combine to consolidate MTI’s leadership in the world’s wireless communications sector.
of the few companies in Taiwan that can cater to multiple international satellite operators simultaneously.
Strive for sustainable development with carbon reduction and energy conservation
To help preserve environmental sustainability, MTI has established a green product management system that assists its suppliers in forming a green supply chain and carrying out green manufacture. Moreover, MTI is proactive to work toward meeting targets set for water conservation and GHG emissions, thereby attaining the ultimate net zero goal.
